He was born into a middle-class African-American household and moved to Chicago, Illinois at the age of three with his mother.

Ye began his career by producing merchandise. During the time he was working on his debut album and prior to its release, Ye was involved in a car accident that left him with a fractured jaw. Before the formal release of his record, Ye utilized his time recuperating to make significant alterations to it. He altered the release date three times before settling on February 2004. His album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, while his breakthrough song, “Through the Wire,” peaked at No. 15 during its five-week height Kanye west run on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Since then, Ye has built a reputation for himself in the music industry with his chart-topping albums and singles.
